There once was a bully from LuLing, whose surname was Chen. Notorious and feared for his recklessness, he was compared to the infamous Niu Er, a person whom everyone despised. Later on, he engaged in a demolition and relocation project, those who resisted were subjected to his brutality, from throwing feces to releasing snakes, to assaults. He was ruthless, often inflicting harm on others, and it was rumored that he had even taken several lives. Yet, his power was immense, and no one could touch him. Chen had a penchant for fishing, often inviting a few friends for late-night fishing trips.
One night, his wife woke up abruptly, hearing Chen rustling around in the living room. She went to investigate and asked him why he wasn’t asleep at such a late hour. He replied, saying he was preparing for a long journey. His wife found his tone and demeanor unusual compared to normal, but attributed it to fatigue and did not probe further. At daybreak, Chen left the house. His wife spent the day in a state of anxious anticipation. In the afternoon, she received a frantic phone call from his fishing companions, revealing that Chen had drowned.
According to their account, Chen had been catching fish incessantly that day. At noon, he suddenly hooked a large golden fish. Overjoyed, Chen hurriedly reeled in the line. However, the fish was enormously strong, and though he couldn’t overpower it, he refused to let go. Ultimately, he was dragged into the water by the fish and drowned in the weeds. Many believed that this was retribution for his evil deeds. This account was shared with me by a friend, as I did not witness it firsthand.
